Jammu, June 30: The damaged wall of the Bahu Fort which collapsed in August last year, is expected to be restored by the end of July. It took the authorities almost a year to restore 110 feet long wall of ancient Bahu Fort at Jammu, which was collapsed on August 18, 2013. Jammu Development Authority (JDA) which is assigned the task to restore it has speed up the work and the officials of the JDA assured that the wall will be restored by July. JDA had started the work on ground in March, more than 30 labourers have been engaged by JDA under the supervision of Executive Engineer, Roop Lal to restore the wall.Roop Lal said, "The restoration work is in full swing, all the work is being done under the guidelines of the Archaeology Department of the state." "About 50 Lakhs will be spent on the wall, more than 80 percent of the work has been done and it is expected to be fully restored in July," he added. Roop Lal also informed that only limestone is being used in the restoration work which is being brought from Tehsil Ramnagar of District Udhampur. The Archaeological department of the state is facing a financial crunch, as they get only 70-80 Lakh as annual budget for a year for all the monuments of the state. The department was already working on Bahu Fort, Samba Fort, Reasi Fort, and Rajouri Fort. No special funds were released by the government till date so on the request of the Archaeological Department of the state, JDA decided to start restoration on debit. The Jammu Development Authority (JDA) had submitted an estimate of Rs. 134 Lakh, in December 2013, to Archaeological Department of the state, for the restoration of wall and some other works at Bahu Fort, out of which Rs. 49 Lakhs were for the restoration of wall. But due to lack of funds, the department has sent the proposal to the Planning department of the state. |
