| LMD imposes penalty of Rs 13000 on erring traders | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 1: Legal Metrology department slapped a fine of Rs. 13,000 on separate traders after they failed to adhere to the provisions of Packaged Commodities Act. In a statement, a spokesman of the department said that prompted by a complaint that the milk pouches of a reputed milk dairy carry the anticipatory date of manufacture/pack, the field executives of the department conducted market inspection of different places to ascertain the genuineness of the complaint. "It was observed that the wrappers of 200 grams curd carry the anticipatory date of manufacture of November 2014. The notice was served to the management of dairy who readily confessed the lapse and a penal sum of Rs 3000/- was slapped on the management," said the spokesman. The spokesman said that in another complaint, a dealer supplied to the consumer a dal packet carrying a declaration of net weight as 1 Kilogram whereas the weight of dal was found only 500grams. A fine of Rs 10,000/- was slapped on the dealer for the unfair trade practice. |
