| Trade unionists hail CM for making management to offer golden handshake | | Demands ‘golden handshake’ to employees retrenched from other projects | | Jammu April 23 Chenab Hydro Power Projects Worker’s Union has hailed the chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, M Y Tarigami, CPI senior leader and MLA for personally intervening and resolving the issues of the 1072 retrenched employees by making management to enter into an agreement with protesting employees. Addressing a joint platform, senior trade unionists from Jammu and union leaders of CHPPWU said this agreement on the pattern of ‘golden handshake’ would ensure that employees do not suffer. Expressing their gratitude towards the chief minister and Tarigami, K K Bakshi general secretary CITU, Javed Zargar general secretary of CHPPWU and Abdul Subhan, president said their personal intervention has brought smiles to the battered employees. Speakers mentioned that following the instructions from Chief Minister, both parties, the management and the protesting employees sat across the negotiation table to reach to the conclusion on 21/4/07 late evening. Speakers also elaborated that highlights of the agreement which include three months basic pay for April, May and June with monthly honorarium to the temporary workers. The management has also agreed to pay recruitment compensation as under notice pay one month basic while the retrenchment compensation of 15 days for every completed year of continuous service of any part thereof in excess of six months x 7 Times, and other benefits as applicable. Trade unionist Javed Zargar also mentioned that in case of the initiation of the new hydral projects these employees should be given employment. The speakers also thanked to the Samir Gour, Director, J P Associates and other authorities for showing their keen interest to resolve the issue of the protesting employees. Javed Zargar, general secretary of CHPPWU and Abdul Subhan, president of CHPPWU also expressed their gratitude towards the various leaders of trade unionists and the workers of the projects to express their solidarity with the retrenched employees in their struggle of 19 days
