| Durbar Move : Last Minute Rush to Expedite work in civil secretariat | | | JAMMU,April 23 Civil Secretariat building here in Jammu is witnessing last minute rush these days. Peoples’ queues in front of the civil secretariat in Jammu have started getting longer with four days left for the offices to move to Srinagar as part of the bi-annual Durbar move. The civil secretariat and other move offices are to close on April 27 in Jammu and will reopen in the state’s summer capital on May 7. During a visit to the civil secretariat today KIP team found long lines of people waiting for permission to meet ministers and senior bureaucrats for getting their pending works expedited. The largest rush of people was seen outside the office chambers of Tourism Minister, Mr Dilawar Mir. At least 200 to 300 people had met the Minister during two hours in the afternoon. Most of them had cases pending in Department of Horticulture, Tourism,Flood Control.People were seen entering and coming out of the rooms of other ministers too. Secretariat officials said “we spent additional an hour or two for clearing the files as we know after the offices move to Srinagar people, belonging to the Jammu region, will have to face difficulties.”They said “we have decided to pack the files and other office records in trunks from April 26 so that they were carried to Srinagar in trucks arranged by the state Roadways Transport Corporation.” Most of the public dealing Departments have sent a section of employees in advance to Srinagar for ensuring that telephone lines and supply of electricity in the secretariat and in other move offices were restored on time. What seems to have amazed the Assembly secretariat is that a senior officer of the rank of secretary Legislative Council,Mr G.R.Mehboobi, had headed the advance party to Srinagar when he was supposed to sign some pending files and look after other affairs of the council in Jammu. Majority of employees have started sending their family members back to Srinagar. A large number of women and children of employees, who were staying in Government allotted quarters and flats have started moving to Srinagar during the last three days. Instructions have been given to security agencies to strengthen security grid all along the 300-km long Jammu-Srinagar highway from April 28 when the employees start moving to the summer capital. The Traffic authorities have been directed to put additional staff on duty on the highway so that employees journey to Srinagar remained a hassle free affair.
