| Batwal Community's plea to Modi, Omar | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association held a meeting here, today wherein the Association members explained the main demands of the Batwal Community. It said that since 67 years of independence, the Union as well as the State Government of Jammu and Kashmir have done a lot for the upliftment and betterment of all socially and economically weaker sections but so far nothing has been done for the poorest Batwal Community which is lagging behind in all fields. The Community has not been given any sort of representation in the RajyaSabha, State Legislature, State Development Board and District Development Boards. It has the maximum strength among the Scheduled Caste Communities. The other relative communities with a meager strength are given all sorts of representations in the State. They urged the Government to extend this honour to the Batwal Community members, too. Members further stated that even in services the reservation is given to those Scheduled Caste candidates whose communities are politically well established at the cost of Batwal Community. The Community is totally ignored at all levels. The boys and girls who by great hardships complete their graduation and post-graduation, etc. are not given any service by reservation only because of lack of political hand at top level. They said that sub-categorization of Scheduled Castes is the only solution to the grievances. The division of 13 Scheduled Castes into sub-groups with each bloc assigned a fraction of the Dalit Quota would ensure better distribution of the reservation benefits. For this, they emphasized the Government to authorize amendments in J&K Scheduled Castes Reservation Act 2004 and Article 341 of the Constitution of India. |
