Rs 8 cr being spent on promotion of Tourism in Bani

To finalize arrangements for state level Sarthal festival being organized from June 4 to 8, an officers meeting was convened here today. Minister of State for Finance, Planning, Law and Revenue Mr. Prem Sagar Aziz presided.
This festival is part of opening of Basohli-Bani-Sarthal tourist circuit aimed at developing tourist potential of mountainous ranges in the circuit.
It was decided in the meeting that tented accommodation and for recreational arrangements including cultural bonanza presented by artists from Information department, Cultural Academy and special cultural troupes from adjoining states will also be part of the attraction of the Mela. SRTC buses will be pressed into service besides mini buses for transporting children to the destination. BDO Bani will install pre-fabricated public utility to facilitate female visitors while CMO, Kathua will ensure necessary arrangements of medicare enroute and deploy special team at the venue.
Director Tourism Jammu will ensure wide publicity through print and electronic media and arrange press parties to cover inauguration and valedictory functions. He will also ensure installation of banners, posters and hoardings highlighting programmes of the festival at different places including Lakhanpur, Pathankot, Dalhousi and Bani. Information department will install PAS at different places and main mela site besides organizing cultural programmes.
Among others security forces including Army wives and police welfare association, business establishments and local traders will also participate and install their stalls in the mela.
Mr. Prem Sagar appealed the Heads of Departments, district administration and public in general to coordinate for successful and smooth conduct of festival. He said it will add new dimensions in the economic growth and prosperity of the people of the area. With the opening of this circuit, distance to valley will considerably decrease and provide an opportunity to locals as well outsider tourists to have the view of nature, he said and added that a package of Rs 8 crore has been made available to boost tourism in Bani area.
Those who attended the meeting were District Development Commissioner Kathua, Ms Sarita Chowhan, General Manager JKTDC Mr. S. M. Sawhney, Director Tourism Mr. Ajay Khajuria, Director Sheep Husbandry Mr. J. L. Bhagat, Chief Medical Officer Kathua, Coordinator Nehru Yuva Kendra, SDPO Basohli, SDM Basohli and senior officers of line departments.
