| Without manpower, Beacon projects face road block | | | Jammu, August 06 The road projects being executed by Beacon in the state have come to a girding halt due to non availability of manpower. Most of the projects are being executed by the government of India construction agency are located in far-flung areas like Somthoen road passing through margan top, road projects in high reaches of Doda district including, Bhaderwah Doda road, Kishtwar National highway etc. According to sources the construction agency faces sever dearth of labour because of unwillingness of outsiders to work in these militancy infested areas on the one hand and low wages that make labour totally disinterested to work at high altitudes. “The labour from outside the state is reluctant to work in far-flung areas due to fear of militants as recently about ten laborers were killed in Kulgam area recently”;, the sources told this reporter adding that local labour is not also ready to work on such low wages. Sources in the Beacon says that management has written to the state government to increase the minimum wages to help them to overcome the crises it is facing due to non availability of labour. It has not received any response as yet, added the sources. The construction agency had sent its teams to outside the state for arranging the labour from states like Oerissa and Bihar but could not manage the same, said the sources adding that recent escalation in violent incidents in the state seems to have scared labour of these states for whom Jammu and Kashmir used to be a favorite place to work. |
