SMVDU bags Chancellor’s, VC’s trophies
Pune students join Springfest-2007

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has clinched Chancellor’s trophy while its Akash House got Vice Chancellor’s Cup for excelling in different events during the 3-day Springfest-2007.

The awards to students and teams for their distinction in various events were given at the valedictory function in the University campus. Chief of Staff, Northern Command, Lt General Rajinder Singh was the Chief Guest while Vice Chancellor, Prof N K Bansal presided.

In the first ever mega event, 17 sports activities and 14 art, cultural and musical events were like races, Solo and Group songs, Solo and Group dances, debates, skit, etc were organised. In all 60 medals and 40 trophies were distributed for the individual and group performances. The youth carnival was attended by 150 students of various institutions from Jammu and its periphery besides students from Symbiosis, Pune. The participants in the Inter University competitions came from various PG departments of Jammu University and various affiliated colleges.

Prof. Bansal gave away the Chancellor’s Trophy at a scintillating function marked by enthusiasm and fervour by the young participants. The event was sponsored by 20 eminent corporate houses and organizations from different parts of the Country including Café Nescafe, Airtel, HP, HPCL, Edu-Tek. Café Nescafe organised a mesmerizing musical evening in the lawns of the university in which all the students, faculty and staff members participated.

Speaking on the occasion, Lt. General Rajender Singh said that India's power lies on its Youth. He dwelt on the great human resource of the country and said India has already emerged as IT superpower in the world. ‘ The Nation is marching towards progress and development, he said adding that the growth rate is expected to be 10 in the near future and with the majority of population being the youth India is poised to scale new heights.

The Chief of the Staff described the University as a historical and landmark contribution by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shri Board and he said that it had earned name and fame for itself in such a short duration of time under the able leadership of Prof. N.K. Bansal.
