There is a traditional adage that men fight over money, women and land and to add a modern facet there is lure of power which motivates a person to annihilate the competitor.
This maxim is proving true as issues concerning women, money and control over specific area of operation are now taking a heavy toll over the militants, in addition to the anti-insurgency operations launched by Army, Police and other paramilitary forces.
Operating under the brand names of different extremist outfits in the militancy infested state of Jammu and Kashmir, more than five cases of group clashes between these militant outfits have been reported so far during the ongoing month only, in which five militants have lost their lives.
According to sources, all these clashes have taken place between the militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit, dominated by foreign ultras and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit, dominated by local ultras.
For the time being the scales in the battle of supremacy have tilted in favour of LeT as most of the militants killed belong to Hizbul Mujahideen, an organization comprising local terrorists.
Both these outfits are battling over the issue of superiority in their area of operation as foreign militants, who are better trained, more dedicated and being very orthodox in their religious beliefs are not willing to yield the leadership to the local militants.
The fight between the locals and foreigners has also erupted over the fact that the Pakistani and Afghan militants do not respect the local populace and in a number of cases have indulged in molesting and raping the local girls.
This has been a very sensitive issue with the locals, represented by Hizbul Mujahideen as their supporters and over ground workers have often turned against them over this issue.
Now, the differences between these outfits have again boiled to such an extent that the two groups are now battling with each other.
Sources said that it was due to these reasons that a HM militant was killed by LeT at Kulthu in Doda some days back.
Another three militants of HM were reportedly killed by LeT and today, one HM militant Ghulam Nabi Mir code Jahangir, son of Ghulam Mohd of Bijbehara was reportedly killed by LeT, reports said.
Meanwhile, LeT has refuted the claims that its cadre were responsible for killing three HM militants in Bonjwa area of Bhaderwah in mountainous district Doda, whose bodies were recovered by a search party on Sunday.
When contacted, SSP, Doda, Manohar Singh, who has been actively involved in anti-insurgency operations said that exploitation of local females, distribution of booty and domination of foreign ultras has been the major reasons behind the feuds between these outfits which are gaining momentum now a days.
