| Flood control dept sounds alert in Bani | | | Jammu, August 06 Jammu and Kashmir flood control has sounded a high alert in Bani area of Bilower tehsil where Bani River is flowing near the danger mark. Official sources said that the continuous rains across the Jammu division have also resulted in flash floods in some of the Nallah’s situated in the upper reaches of the Doda and Rajouri districts. However there was no report of any causality or loss of property. Chief engineer Flood Control and irrigation V K Abrol said that the water level in Bani River was rising and it is likely to increase further in case the rains continue. “We have asked the officials in the area to maintain a close vigil on the water level so that precautionary measures, if needed, can be taken”, Abrol said. It was also learnt that there was no immediate threat of flood in chinab and Tawi Rivers as the water was flowing at the normal level. “During the monsoon it is the Nallah’s which causes more threat than the rivers, who’s water level normally increases due to the melting of glaciers |
