Copy of caste certificate denied under RTI
CIC New Delhi upholds the decision of UPSC

NEW DELHI, July 13: The Central Information Commission New Delhi has said that caste certificate and other documents submitted by candidate before any competent authority cannot be sought by any other person under Right to Information Act (RTI) unless there is some public interest involved.
The Chief Information Commissioner Rajiv Mathur while issuing the orders on July 10 quoted the Supreme Court 's decision in this regard which had issued an order some time back wherein the apex court had observed that such documents are submitted before the competent authorities under fiduciary capacity. Public Authorities at CIC New Delhi were represented by SK Tripathi, Under Secretary cum CPIO, UP Singh, Director, DGMS, (both from Ministry of Labour) Ms Indrani Gupta, Deputy Secretary cum CPIO, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) , and VP Singh, CPIO, DGMS Dhanbad.
