PKK holds first annual convocation at Guwahati

Pracheen Kala Kendra (PKK) held its first Annual Convocation at Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati and awarded Visharad final (Bachelor of Music) and Bhaskar final (Master of Music) to the successful candidates of Assam. The convocation was followed by a well-knit concert of classical music and dance.
Smt Krishna Singh, the first lady of Assam, who was the chief guest at the function, lauded the efforts of Kendra in propagating and disseminating the old traditional arts on sound and scientific lines.
On this occasion, the Kendra also honoured five eminent personalities including Gorima Hazarika, renowned Sattriya Nritya exponent, Dulal Roy eminent dramatist, Haidar Hussain. Editor Asomiya Pratidin and Manoj Kumar Goswami Editor, Dainik Janasadharan. Dada Saheb Phalke awardee, Dr Bhupen Hazarika, could not attend the function to receive the award due to illness; however it was received by her sister Sudakshina Sarma. The awardees were given Rs.5000, a shawl and a citation each for their outstanding contribution in their respective fields of specialization. Krishna Singh gave away the prizes to the eminent persons.
The Pracheen Kala Kendra established in 1956 at Chandigarh has emerged as a major cultural icon of exchange of culture between Assam and other parts of the country which helped each other to understand better. The Kendra has become a bridge between the north-east and rest of the country in exchange of cultural heritage. Since the Kendra has its affiliated institutions all over the country and abroad including USA, UK, Canada, Mauritius and Singapore, it has felt the need to play a very active role in promoting culture in Assam and bringing reputed artists of the country to the land of Ahoma, Assam, which has a rich cultural tradition especially after the acceptance of the Sattriya Nritya, as one of the classical dance forms of India.
Dogra Harish Kaila, President Nami Dogri Sanstha-The Art Foundation, S S Anand Lehar, Capt. Lalit Sharma and Randhir Singh Raipuria, President Dogra Mandal has congratulated the Shoba Koser and Madan Lal Koser for holding such a wonderful event in the north east.
