| Pahari people take out rally, demand ST status | | | Poonch April 24-
Pahari people of the district today organized a protest rally against the denial of Scheduled Tribe status to Pahari speaking people and inclusion of their long and genuine demand in 3rd RTC agenda. The rally was organized under the chairmanship of Lokesh Kumar Sharma President Pahari Welfare Forum.
The rally which started from Government Degree College ground culminated at Mendhar after passing through various markets of the district headquarter.
Addressing a strong rally of 20000 people, including women and children, Sharma cautioned that if the genuine demand of granting ST status was not granted, the Forum would be forced to intensify its stir. He said that despite assurances by both the State and Central government nothing has been done so far.
Several others speakers also warned the government that the Pahari people will go to any extent and would not hesitate to sacrifice their lives for taking the movement to its logical conclusion and maintained that granting ST status to them would in no way affect any community or a tribe in the state.
