| GVK management, agitating unemployed youth parleys ended in deadlock | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, July 15: The ongoing commotion over denial of jobs to local unemployed youths of Kishtwar District in 850 MW Rattle Hydro Power Project Kishtwar remained on as the talks between the management of GVK Powers Limited and agitating unemployed youths felicitated by the district administration today ended in a deadlock. As per the details available with "Early Times", the meeting between GVK management and agitating unemployed youths began at new DC office complex Kishtwar at around 3.30 PM today. The much awaited meeting between officials of GVK Powers limited, L&T, unemployed Engineers, BJYM activists and representatives of various political parties was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan. DIG DKR Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, ADDC Kishtwar Avtar Singh Chib, ADC Kishtwar Mohammad Hanief Malik, SSP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal, ACR Kishtwar Sudar Shan Kumar, ASP Kishtwar Abdul Qayoom, Tehsildar Kishtwar Falail Singh, Chief Engineer PDC Shaish Kumar and several other government officers were also remain present in the meeting. During the course of the meeting unemployed youths (engineers) flayed the GVK & L&T management for backtracking from assurances made by the company as the ratio of 80:20 in appointments as stated by the L&T was refused by the company to which it had sublet the work. During the meeting youth demanded assurance from the L&T and GVK management with regard to appointment of the local engineers which was denied by the L&T management with the plea that they are not authorized to make such promises. Their stand attracted strong uproar from participants who termed it as joke with the administration as senior officers. Meanwhile DIG Ashkoor Wani pacified the two sides indulged in claims and counter claims and asked both the management to stick to MOU. However the alleged inflexible approach of GVK management also made BJYM activist Shashi Badyal to stand in his chair. While accusing police of hoodwinking the meeting agenda BJYM activists stage walkout followed by the walkout of majority of other participants. During the meeting GVK management also shifted the blame put blame on L&T for trouble that led to closure of work at project site especially denial of acknowledgement of MOU signed between the company and the state government at the time of awarding of contract. In his address DC Kishtwar also slammed the project management for showing duel standards in making promises and its implementation and asked to mend ways. Meanwhile despite security assurance given by DIG Ashkoor Wani, the project management refused to start the work. Management briefly said that they are waiting for the outcome of the meeting between GVK management and Chief Minister of the state. |
