| PDP seeks PM's intervention to speed up J&K's connectivity projects | | | New Delhi , April 25 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sought the Prime Minister's intervention to ensure time-bound completion of the Mughal Road project.
The issue was raised by the PDP President, Ms Mehbooba Mufti at the IIIrd Roundtable Conference here yesterday. She said the Mughal Road is not only important as an alternative route to the Kashmir valley, but it is also a vital connectivity link between the border districts of Poonch & Rajouri with the valley.
Ms Mufti said the Government of India should resolve the issues through the intervention of Union Environment and Forest Ministry that have apparently hampered the construction of this prestigious project. She also stressed the need for speeding up work on Udhampur-Qazigund railway line, Kishtwar-Simthan-Anantnag road and construction of tunnel at Zojilla on Srinagar-Kargil road.
Ms Mufti said, ironically, even after 60 years of independence Jammu & Kashmir is severely deficient in intra and inter-state connectivity, which is one of the main causes of its economic backwardness. She said all the intra and inter-state connectivity projects must be completed in a time-bound manner so that the economic potential of the State could be fully exploited.
