4/25/2007 11:11:03 PM
Jammu | Apr 25
The mass scale raids by the income tax department in various business houses of Jammu have been resented by the entire business community.
According to press release issued by Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) here today representatives of various trade and Industries association called on Ram Sahai and office bearers of CCI and express their resentment and un happiness over the raids which has gripped the entire business community in a state of shock. Keeping this view, Sahai called a emergency meeting an discussed in detail about the Income Tax raids.
The meeting, which was attended by the different associations including members from Udhampur, Kathua, Katra, Reasi, Akhnoor, Samba and Rajouri, resented the attitude of income tax authorities for conducting raids in Jammu, why no action is taken by the department in Kashmir valley.
The meeting was told the people of Jammu during the peak of militancy when their business activists were badly hit cooperated with the Tax Authorities to meet their targets. At that time also the valley was left untouched on the plea that people are under the threat of gun. The highest tax authorities are reported to have assured repeatedly that Jammu will not be discriminated in this regard and soon such type of search and seizures will be started in the valley also but it seems that either the authorities have not guts to take such action in the valley on the fear of retaliation or they ae interested in twisting the arms of only those places which are largely law abiding.
Sahai assured the people that he had been taking up the issue with the higher tax authorities vigorously and vociferously in the past also and he will convey the tax authorities about the sentiments of people of Jammu which should them to take appropriate action for removing the discrimination and disparity between the two parts of the State.
