8 New Challenger lifts Chevrolet Cup7 Valedictory function remains a low key affair

JAMMU, July 20: Sailing on all round performance from Ram Dayal, the star studded side of New Challenger Cricket Club (NCCC) today lifted the Chevrolet Cup Twenty20 Tournament, the final of which was played at KC Public School ground, here.
To clinch the title trophy, NCCC defeated equally talented side of Kishen Chand Cricket Club (KCCC) by four wickets. Earlier, batting first, KCCC could make 125 runs losing seven wickets, which, in reply, NCCC overhauled in 17.1 overs for six wickets.
Shashi Kumar played fine innings of 46 runs coming off 42 deliveries with the help of five boundaries while Vimarsh Kaw made 36 runs. Bobby and Manik Gupta contributed 14 and 11 runs respectively.
From NCCC, Manu and Rohit Sharma were most successful bowlers with two wickets each while Ram Dayal, Sunit and Deepak Manhas shared apiece each.
Later, NCCC attained the goal making 128 runs with four wickets in hand that too sparing 2.5 overs of their innings. Ram Dayal scored 22-ball 28 runs hitting two sixes and two boundaries while Manjeet Singh Chib added quick fire 26 coming off just 18 deliveries studded with three sixes and a four. Ian Dev Singh and Parveen Singh contributed 19 and 17 runs respectively. From KCCC, Raman Dutta, Manik Gupta and Soumay Jain shared two wickets each.
For his superb innings, Ram Dayal declared man of the match. The final officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik and Rajinder Singh as umpires while Sohail Yusuf was scorer. Other two umpires, who also officiated in this tournament, Abhijot Singh Bedi and Sandeep Manchanda were also present. Since the valedictory function remained a low key affair with no special guest to honour the finalist teams, the trophies were handed over to the winners and runners-up teams by members of the organising committee.
However, it was announced at the venue that the winner team will be presented with a prize of Rs 40,000 while the runners-up shall get Rs 20,000.
