Jammu, July 20: With the J&K State Sports Council administration failing to look beyond infrastructure development, sportsmen are craving for even basic sports equipment, lack of which has made training in certain sports disciplines practically impossible. Sources in the Council divulge that the purchases of necessary sports equipment have not been made since years, affecting the sports training adversely. According to the reliable sources, training in various disciplines in the M A stadium like Table Tennis, Gymnastics, Badminton etc. has taken serious dent due to inavailability of necessary equipment like shuttle cocks, balls, rackets and safety equipment for Gymnastics. Kewal koushal a struggling weightlifter told Early Times that the only Gym in the stadium is also closed for the past over some time as the equipments are defunct. He also said that all the weightlifters could not train properly because of this mess. Sports Officer Rajan Sharma when contacted by Early Times admitted the delay in arranging sports equipments but assured that tenders have been invited through wide publicity and moreover talking over the Gym issue, he said, “ we have already invited tenders to supply updated Gym Equipments”. However, contradicting his statement, Joint Secretary Sports Council Siddarth Sharma said that the authorities are going to make a proposal to Invite Tenders within a month. |
