Day 2: 4 cops among 12 hurt in south Kashmir clashes

Kulgam, July 20: Over one dozen persons including four cops were injured on Sunday in clashes between protesters and security forces in Kulgam district, where a youth was allegedly killed in CRPF firing. Several youth pelted stones at police in Qaimoh area of the district and adjoining areas to protest against the killing of 15-year-old Suhail Ahmad Mir in firing yesterday, a police official said. Security forces used tear smoke shells and fired pellet guns in a vain bid to chase away the protesters, the official said. He said eight protesters were injured as they were hit by pellets and teargas shells while a policeman and three CRPF jawans also sustained injuries during stone-pelting. Injuried were identified as Aadil Muzaffar s/o Muzaffar Ahmad r/o Redeani, Aashiq Ahmad shah s/o Basir Ah shah r/o Rampura Shouket Ahmad s/o Ibrahim r/o Nagbal (Khudwani) age 16yrs, Aarif Bhat s/o Mohd Yaqub Bhat r/o pine(Redwani) 20yrs, Mirazdin s/o Mohd Yusuf Lone r/o Prisal age 20yrs, Aadil budroo s/o Nk Buchroo, F aiyaz Ah Sheikh s/o Basir Ahmad Sheikh r/o Ram pura age 19yrs 8, Amin dar r/o Redwani age 18yrs . The situation in the area continues to be tense as additional police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed in the area for restoring law and order, the official said. Meanwhile, CRPF opened fire on protesters in Dahruna area of Hakura Anatnag during which one youth identified as Ahsan ul Haq Wani received bullet injuries and was shifted to Srinagar hospital in critical condition.
