| Touts fleecing people in Ganderbal for issuing new ration cards | | | SRINAGAR, July 20: Poor and innocent people of Ganderbal district are being misled and duped by an unknown group of touts who are charging Rs. 50 from each household, promising them new ration cards. According to sources the Government has decided to issue new ration cards to people in the state and about 80,000 families will be covered under the same in Ganderbal; However the touts and agents of Revenue Department have started collecting Rs 50 from each family for providing new ration card. The inhabitants of Gund-e-Rehman, Kalispora and Butwani made a complaint with Assistant Director CAPD, Ganderbal about the collection of money for ration cards by some touts and agents. He while showing total ignorance said that Ration Cards are being given by CAPD Department free of cost and no money is charged from consumers for the same. When asked from some of the touts they told that they have been instructed by Revenue Officers. The AD Food while taking the serious exception to the same said ration cards are being issued by CAPD and Revenue Department has nothing to do with the same. He also took up the issue with higher ups in the department and they have decided to bring the same in the notice of officers of Revenue Department. Meanwhile AD CAPD has asked people not to pay money to the agents for issuance of ration cards as same are being given free of cost to consumers by the Department. Taking serious note of it peoples conference and other social organisations including Peoples Welfare Association and Pensioners Federation has warned agitation in case action under law is not initiated against the touts and Revenue officials for collecting money from people for ration cards. PC senior leader Mir Ghulam Rasool told Early Times that Ganderbal being the constituency of Chief Minister is virtually being run by agents and touts. He said that people are not even given ration as per 2001 census out of 46000 families entitled for ration only 41000 families are given ration in the district. When actual number of families as per 2011 census entitled for ration is 81000. He said one lady Shama Begum W/o Late Mohd. Maqbool Mir of Butwani Ganderbal who lost her husband and son in a grenade blast in 1991 has also been deprived of ration. This shows total callousness of Govt. Mir said ration is sold 1060 per quintal in CM's constituency by CAPD Depots while Govt rate is Rs 1000 only. Likewise for Rs 50 three and half legs of sugar are to be sold at controlled rate but in Ganderbal it is sold 3kgs for Rs 50. This shows that CAPD and touts have perpetuated a loot in Ganderbal and people's resentment is brewing against Govt day by day. |
