| Motorcycle torched; Cops at Khirbhawani shrine attacked | | | | SRINAGAR, July 25: J&K Police and the Cops guarding the revered Khirbhawani temple at Tulmulla, in Ganderbal, came under attack today after a group of the residents demanded custody of a government official arrested by the Police for calling a woman to his office inspite of the holiday. Informed sources told Early Times that a group of the residents gathered outside the office of Zonal Education Officer Tulmulla and they objected to a clerk Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh's act of calling a woman in mysterious circumstances to his office which was otherwise closed due to holiday on account of the last Friday of the holy month of Ramzan. While as the woman gave the people outside and the Police a slip, Zahoor Ahmad Sheikh s/o Mohammad Sayeed Sheikh of Saloora was taken into custody by the Khirbhawani Police Post. A larger crowd gathered and began demanding custody of Zahoor Sheikh. They said that they would punish the clerk themselves. Police refused to hand over the detained person. The protestors torched motorcycle, bearing registration No: JK01L-2490, probably belonging to Sheikh. They resorted to heavy stone pelting on the the Police guards at the shrine entrance. Officials said that Police used lathi charge and teargas while they fired two shots in the air and the unruly crowd dispersed. |
