| Air Force helicopters evacuate accident victims | | | Jammu, April 26 Air Force Station Jammu, under the command of Group Captain JS Kler, specifically tasked to look after the needs of J&K, launched a mercy mission by its MI-17-IV medium lift multi utility helicopters for evacuation of tragic bus accident victims in Poonch district yesterday. Soon after the civil administration requested the Helicopter squadron commanded by Wing Commander Varun Sharma for air evacuation of civilian casualties from Poonch to Jammu, the Air Force station swift into action and helped in evacuating the victims. On call of mercy mission, the pilots of 130 Helicopter Unit (we support life) swung into action and got airborne in 25 minutes with necessary equipment on board. The team of pilots lead by Wg Cdr SP Singh, Squadron Leader PS Chavan and Sergeant Rajesh completed the mission in a record time of one hour and forty minutes, defeating all odds and inclement weather and extreme hilly area turbulence experienced in valleys. Eight critically injured passengers with 11 attendants and three doctors were air evacuated to Jammu for treatment. At the accident site, a column of 27 Rashtriya Rifles, under the aegis of Romeo Force, rendered all necessary assistance to the civil administration in the rescue mission, a Defence handout said.
