| Jammu-Pathankot NH awaits maintenance | | | Neeraj Badyal
SAMBA, July 29: For years together now, first stretch of state's life line, Jammu-Pathankot National Highway has been awaiting maintenance mechanism. The widened road is about to complete three years but National Highway Authority of India is yet to ensure the maintenance work. With the result this vital road stretch has developed several vulnerable points causing fatal road accidents. Pertinent to mention here that road stretch from Lakhanpur to Jammu has almost been completed. Most of the portion was prepared more than two years ago but despite a long span of time the proposal of maintenance is still hanging in balance. The stretch of National Highway from Maheshwar to Nanak Chak has been damaged and big path holes hinder influx of vehicles. Locals alleged that big path holes are creating danger of road accidents but concerned authorities have turned blind eye towards the issue. People demands early renovation of highway stretch from Maheshwar area to Nanak Chak in Samba. National Highway Authority of India had failed to take concrete steps to get Highway repaired. National Highway Authority of India was supposed to be collect tax which would be utilized for the highway maintenance. Since the tax collection could not be started till date, highway' maintenance work is facing pendency. |
