Miscreants hurl acid on girls in Akhnoor
4/27/2007 11:25:37 PM

Akhnoor, April 27
In a bizarre incident of crime against women, some unidentified persons sprinkled highly concentrated acid on a group of girls at a marriage party at village Lahar Sungal here last night.

Two teenaged and a minor girl suffered severe burn injuries in the gruesome incident. All of them have been admitted at the Government Medical college hospital Jammu.

Eyewitnesses said that some miscreants present at a marriage party, taking advantage of darkness threw highly concentrated acid solution on a group of girls.

The miscreants reportedly took the undue advantage of a power breakdown in the area to commit the crime, reports reaching here revealed.

"Unidentified persons threw acid on the group of girls gathered near the bride and bridegroom at the time of Jaimala ritual taking the advantage of darkness following a power failure" an eyewitness told News Agency of Kashmir.

"Girls started screaming in pain, but no one knew what happened to them" said another Barati preferring anonymity. He said it was only when alternate lightening arrangements were made that people present on the occasion come to know that the girls have been attacked by acid.

Soon after the incident the hosts at the marriage party called the police, while the victims were taken to local hospital where from doctors referred them to GMC.

After registering a case under case FIR no: 60U/S 324/34 police has picked up four youth on suspicion, who were being questioned, sources added. However, the victims have not identified any of them as the person responsible for the act. (NAK)
