| Respect for human rights integral part of policing: Azad | | | JAMMU, APRIL 27 – Lauding the performance of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad highlighted its role in maintaining peace, law and order under challenging circumstances. Speaking at attestation-cum-passing-out parade at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy at Udhampur today, Mr. Azad said that while facing untoward situation during last 18 years large number of police personnel sacrificed their lives. Chief Minister said that the prolonged turmoil in the state has adversely affected the health of people in the state. The police has to act as a catalyst for their speedy recovery. Mr. Azad said that people of the state desire peace and development. However, every citizen has to work with commitment, devotion and determination to achieve this goal. He asked police to ensure safety of general public while dealing with militancy. “Upholding human rights should be a priority”, he said, and added that the best police force always maintains peace without infringing rights of citizens. Referring to the enthusiasm women have displayed opting for police job. Chief Minister described the trend as highly encouraging. “Girls and boys are now working shoulder to shoulder in every field to bring laurels to the country”. Giving example of Razia Sultan, Rani Jhansi and Mrs. Indira Gandhi, who is the leader of the millennium, he said India has produced courageous, brave and extra-ordinary women who have made their mark. Chief Minister congratulated the cadets and expressed hope that they would devote their best to police department and serve with zeal and zest. Referring to the police academy, Chief Minister said that it has come up as an institution of excellence for training police personnel. Chief Minister also gave away prizes to the pass-outs for excelling in various activities. PSI Isha Mahajan bagged the first prize in indoor activities and PSI Manju Bala was adjudged the best in outdoor activities. Similarly, PSI Stangin Jigmet was awarded the best marksman, PSI Anita Bandral and PSI Mudasir Shafi as best riders and PSI Menaz Kousar as all round best. The parade was commanded by PSI Rimpi Khajuria. Director General of Police Mr. Gopal Sharma speaking on the occasion said that Jammu and Kashmir Police is always ready to make any sacrifice for restoration of lasting peace in the state and for protecting life and property of the people. He said the force has even made supreme sacrifices during the last 18 years. He said to serve the people with utmost commitment, zeal and devotion is the resolve of police force and added that it would meet any challenge effectively. Director Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Mr. Ram Lubhaya in his welcome address gave details of the functioning of the academy including courses undertaken and curriculum taught to the trainees. He said during the last year 4744 police persons were trained in 47 different courses including basic promotion and special courses. He said in today’s attestation-cum-passing-out parade 35 trainees including 17 lady police officers passed-out. Among those present on the occasion were Director General Prisons Mr. M. K. Mohanty, Additional Directors General of Police Mr. P. S. Gill and Mr. Kuldeep Khoda, IGPs Dr. S. P. Vaid, Mr. Naveen Aggarwal, Mr. Dilbag Singh and Mr. Ashok Gupta, DIG Mr. Gulzar Singh Slathia, AIG Personnel PHQ Mr. A. Q. Manhas, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Mr. O. P. Kalanderia, SSP Udhampur Mr. P. R. Manhas, other senior officers, prominent citizens and parents of passing-out cadets.
