| Rs. 4 cr apple pack house at Shopian by Sept: Dilawar | | | JAMMU, APRIL 26 – The Board of Directors of J&K Horticulture Produce and Marketing Corporation (HPMC) today decided to execute on ambitious project to construct a modern integrated pack house with in-built all latest grading, packing and cold storage facilities at Shopian in South-Kashmir in a bid to put the state on the export map of apples. The project to cost about Rs. 4 crore would be commissioned by ending September this year and all possibilities of public-private participation for its execution would be explored optimally. Decision to this effect was taken at the 52nd meeting of Board of Directors HPMC held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Horticulture and PHE Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir. Minister of State for Horticulture and Higher Education Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan was also present in the meeting. The meeting also decided to introduce alternate packing for fruits in place of wooden boxes to enhance market acceptability and compatibility of the horticulture produce of the state. The corporation was authorized to open its sale outlets in fruit producing belts of the state to provide quality pesticides to the growers. The Managing Director HPMC informed the meeting that the corporation proposes to crush 8000 MTs of apple pre-falls and C-Grade fruit for preparing apple juice concentrate at apple juice plant Doabgah Sopore during the current year. He said corporation had a business turn over of Rs. 7 crore during last financial year. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir urged upon the management to strive for making the corporation profitable by exploring other horticulture related trade activities. Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan called for introducing modern marketing channel for exporting horticulture produce of the state to terminal markets within and outside the country. Saying that the horticulture is the backbone of the state economy, Mr. Aijaz impressed upon the officers to work with zeal and enthusiasm to help growers in all spheres of fruit production. He said with a progress in Science and Technology, latest trends I are being introduced for boosting horticulture sector and similar approach should be made use of in bringing a revolution in the sector. Mr. Aijaz also stressed for making use of available resources for poor and medium class growers in respect of providing them with pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers and know-how by the horticulture department. The meeting also decided to enhance the maximum limit of gratuity in favour of corporation employees from Rs. 2.50 lakh to Rs. 3.50 lakh in terms of approved gratuity rules. It was also decided to introduce tetra-packing of horticulture products prepared by the corporation in place of glass bottles to make these more hygienic. Principal Secretary, Agriculture Production, Mr. S. S. Sahini, MD J&KHPMC Mr. Showkat Ali, Director Horticulture P&M Mr. Showkat Ahmad Zargar, prominent industrialists and Director on Board of the corporation Syed Altaf Bukhari and representatives of finance and concerned department were also present in the meeting.
