Vijaypur, Aug 1: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today criticized National Conference and bureaucracy for creating hurdles for permanent settlement of the refugees/Displaced persons of 1947, 1965 and 1975 camp AND non Camp. "It was the Congress Ministers who had forced its alliance in J&K to accept the proposal of permanent settlement of the refugees and the UPA Government had also prepared its mind to finally release the needed compensation to the displaced persons and refugees," Singh said while addressing party workers in Vijaypur in a monthly meeting. He accused NC of creating hurdles with the help of bureaucracy to halt settlement of the refugees. "The package of settlement was delayed for nearly three years and it was not forwarded to the UPA Government," he alleged. "Many a time, we had differences on the issue and yet NC ignored the demands," he said breaking his prolonged silence on the alliance. He said now when the NDA Government has taken over in Centre, the issue remains unaddressed. "They raised slogans and got votes but forgot the refugees and displaced persons of Jammu division who have been suffering on the borders," Singh, also a Jat leader alleged. He said that not only the refugee issue, the NDA has also failed to control the price rise. "The people have understood the NDA Government had failed in Uttarakhand where Congress has won all the three seats in the recently held elections." He talked about shortage of electricity, LPG and potable water in Samba district. "The people have been facing shortage of ration in Government depots even as Government has claimed that they have supply proper ration in the depots", he said.
"I want to know that where the ration has gone. The Chief Minister should know about the issue and resolve it in the interest of the people without political consideration," he demanded.
