| No manpower to control Traffic: IG traffic | | | Rajouri, April 27— Expressing his helplessness to control accidents and check illegal operation of the public transport in the state, Inspector General Traffic, Jammu and Kashmir , Raja Ajaz Ali said on Friday that he hasn’t sufficient man power to check the illegal traffic operations in the state. For this, he said, he has already requested the government to provide him more man power so that the illegal operation of buses and over loading is checked throughout the state at block levels. This he said while talking to media persons at Rajouri during his visit to the accident site at border district Poonch where at least 47 people have lost their lives in two different bus accidents during past one week. About the out dated buses plying in the rural areas, IG admitted that scores of such buses which have been declared unfit to operate are still plying in far flung rural areas. But, he said that most of the new buses have been engaged by the armed forces for their movement due to which most of the rural areas people have no bus available, thus the bus operators take the benefit of the situation and divert these old and out dated buses in these rural areas, he added. Giving details of the traffic officials deployed in both the districts of Rajouri and Poonch, Ali said he has only eight persons in both the districts of Rajouri and Poonch headed by a Sub Inspector in each district. He said it is not possible for eight people to make their presence at every place in this far flung and geographically a wide region. “ I have taken over only 20 days ago and I assure you that the prevailing traffic control system in the state will be improved and the responsibility of each accident will be imposed on the respective officer deployed in the area”, Said Ali adding that he was also planning to establish a traffic control unit at every tehsil head quarter. However, Inspector General Traffic, informed that local SHOs of each police station are also authorised to check the any type of illegality of the public transport. “ But I am unable to understand that despite having full authorisation of the checking why the local police remains silent over this menace and the whole of the responsibility is shifted on the traffic management”, he said .
