| Declare ‘May Day’ as national holiday: Shastri | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Apr 29 President of National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) Subash Shastri has appealed to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to declare MAY Day as National Holiday. Addressing a rally of NMC activists at village Jihri. Shastri said that May Day should be declared as National Holiday so that the salaried class remembers the sacrifices of martyrs of 1886 who laid their loves for the betterment and protection of rights of working class of world. He said that during the V.P Singh regime it was decided to declare May Day as a National Holiday, but due to some un known factors the decision could not be implemented till date. Pleading the cause of State Govt. employees and of pensioners Shastri urged upon the Chief Minister G.N. Azad cabinet colleagues to release six percent DA installment in favor of it employees and pensioners, and hoped decision would be taken by the state cabinet which is going to be held in second week of May in Srinagar. Other demands highlighted in the rally included immediate release of Cola installments, release of 19 months salary of motivators of IWDP Akhnoor, deputing of Chairman of Revenue Department for Patawar training and grant of Rs. One thousand as interim relief. Other who spoke in the rally were Rajan Babu Khajuria, Sham Lal Sharma, Ram Paul Sharma, and others activists of NMC.
