Azad directs early launching of more 25 mini-hydel projects

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 7
Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has called for conducting a comprehensive survey for evaluating and harnessing the vast hydel power potential available in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing 44th meeting of the Board of Directors of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Corporation here today, Chief Minister also laid stress on completion of on-going hydel projects so that availability of power for the people of the state is increased. He said all out efforts need to be made to complete the execution of the projects within the stipulated time frame to avoid time and cost over-runs.
Referring to mini and micro- hydel projects, Mr. Azad said that work on already allotted projects to the independent power producers should be speeded up and 25 other such projects for which tenders have been received too need to be executed fast. He said detailed project reports should be prepared for all the identified mini and micro-hydel projects to speed up the process of tapping the hydel power potential.
Power Minister Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora, Economic Advisor to Government Dr. Haseeb A Drabu, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog, Principal Secretary Power Mr. Madhav Lal, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Anil Goswami, Commissioner/Secretary Finance Mr. B. B. Vyas and Managing Director State Power Development Corporation Mr. Shailendra Kumar also attended the meeting.
Chief Minister directed for immediate starting of work for alternate Pul Doda bridge over river Chenab. He also issued instructions to the authorities for constructing motorable suspension bridge at Trungal instead of foot-suspension bridge and speeding up work on the foot-suspension bridge at Marsoo on river Chenab so that people living on the other side of the river get connectivity. He said Trungal bridge should be constructed in such a way that it bears the bus load and road connectivity is ensured to the area across.
