Jammu | Apr 30 On his 75th birthday, Tilak Raj Sharma, veteran social activist was warmly felicitated in an impressive function held at Ved Mandir, attended by a cross section of prominent citizens of Jammu. Tilak Raj Sharma, having 55 years long standing in public life, has played a pioneering role in the establishment of ABVP, Praja Parishad and other social organizations in the state. As a student leader of ABVP in early 50s, he underwent fast unto death for 42 days against hoisting of NC flag instead of tri-colour flag, which proved to be a prelude to the mass agitation launched by Praja Parishad in 1952-53 for Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan, Ek Nishaan. He also worked as general secretary of the Janata Party after the merger of Jana Sangh with other parties and vice-president and general secretary of state unit of BJP. Sharma, presently President, Goa Freedom Fighters Association, participated in Goa Freedom Fighter’s movement in 1955 and bore the atrocities of Portuguese. Dr. OP Mengi, Arun Kumar, Ashok Khajuria, Daya Krishan Kotwal, Babu Parmanad, Prof. Hari Om, Ramesh Sabharwal, Prof. Virender Gupta, Amar Nath, Ramesh Gupta, Ajay Jamwal, Kavinder Gupta Ramesh Pappa, Lalit Moza, S.S. Nanda, Kuldeep Raj Gupta, Leela Karan Sharma and a number of other prominent social, political and religious persons greeted his contribution towards the social and national cause and wished him a long life.
