| J&K accession with India can't be reviewed: Prof Gupta | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 21: Commenting upon the controversy created by Pakistan that Kashmir is a dispute, the former Union Minister and MLA Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta said that the Maharaja Hari Singh by using his legal authority had signed the Instrument of Accession. This was also supported by the then largest party of the State, National Conference led by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. This was also ratified by the Constituent Assembly of the State. Thus the issue of accession was finalized and it was not like a Mutta Marriage which can be reviewed at the will of any body. Prof. Gupta further said Pakistan has not only invaded Jammu & Kashmir but also is illegally holding over one third of the State. It is also flouting the UN restrictions by not vacating the held territories. Pakistan has rather changed the demographic character of occupied areas as also annexed large parts of Galgit and Batalstan. Several constructions including Mangla Dam of permanent nature have been raised illegally in occupied areas to the benefit of Pakistan ignoring the interests of the local people. Prof. Gupta also pointed out that having failed to grab the State through armed invasions of Jammu & Kashmir, Pakistan has launched a proxy war through cross border terror. This has caused great destruction so much so during the past two decades over Fifty thousand human lives have been lost. Over Five Lac Kashmiri Pandits and other minorities of the State have been rendered destitute and they have come to be refugees within their own country. Referring to the claim of Pakistan and their henchmen in Kashmir that Kashmir is a dispute, Prof. Gupta said they have no right to put such claims. They have no representative character and more so the Indian Constitution did not permit for such claims. He also ridiculed the meetings of the separatists with Pakistan High Commission and questioned that whether Pakistan authorities would permit the separatists of Balochastan or any other part of that country to have such meetings with other foreign powers. No country can permit such behind the scene machinations with the forces enemical to the country. Prof. Gupta also said that the separatists have no representative character. They have small pockets in the Valley. They should not be allowed to challenge the integrity of the country & create law and order problems at the behest of elements hostile to India. Pakistan is not honouring earlier agreements including that that of Shimla and Lahore. Ceasfire is being violated with impunity. There is no let up in the designs of pushing ultras, to this side. In the situation talks have little meanings as the peace efforts and violence cannot go together. Prof. Gupta said there is a need for clear cut policy at New Delhi to deal with elements trying to create law & order problems and disturb the peace of the State. |
