Jora inaugurates Denis Gate Receiving Station
Asks people, public representatives to cooperate in containing power pilferage

Jammu, May 1
Minister for Power Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora today called upon people and public representatives to extend their cooperation in containing Power and revenue pilferage.
The Minister was addressing a gathering after inaugurating newly constructed Denis Gate 10 MVA, 33/11 Receiving Station located on the right banks of river Tawi.
Member Legislative Assembly, Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, besides senior PDD officials and prominent citizens of the area were present on the occasion.
Constructed at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore under ambitious APDRP scheme, the Receiving station would benefit a population of 20 thousand of Gumat, Chand Nagar, Gujjar Nagar and Wazarat Road areas, besides easing load on two existing feeders at Wazrat Road and Company Bagh. The receiving station has been completed in a record time of one and a half year.
Calling upon people to use power judiciously, Minister said public representatives can play an important role in motivating public for giving regular tariff and getting their households metered. He said Jammu and Kashmir State is charging lowest power tariff as compared to other states of the country adding “however, it is unfortunate that despite providing electricity on highly subsidized rates, people here are unwilling to pay their dues”
Giving details of the losses being incurred by the state every year, the Minister said that against over Rs 16 crore spent on purchasing electricity last year, department could get only Rs. 438 crore. He said these yearly losses are pushing the state towards a power crisis situation adding that people have to realize the exigency and come forward to cooperate with government in its efforts to improve power scenario in the state.
He said following the persuasion of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad state has received a huge reform Package of Rupees 3900 crore to be implemented during next three years. He however said that though the Package is a great boast for the state in dealing with power crisis, it has been provided on certain conditions. He said in case the department fails to fulfill the same, GOI could withhold the release of funds in future.
Minister also held the PDD officials responsible for the present situation and said that a many within the department have developed a vested interest. He however warned them that their performance is being evaluated and any official failing in his duties would have to face the music.
He congratulated the people and hoped that the commissioning of the station would improve the power supply situation in the area providing some sort of relief from the prevailing hot climate in the region. He also thanked MLA Mr. Yogesh Sawhney for helping the department in acquiring the land for the station.
Mr Yogesh Sawhney also spoke on the occasion and congratulated PDD Minister and Officials for early commissioning of the station.
