| Shardhanjali to Martyrs on May Day | | | JAMMU, MAY 01 In the memory of martyrs of labour movement at Chicago (USA), a grand rally was organized at Reshamghar colony where a large number of workers, trade unionists paid rich tributes to those who laid down their lives for the betterment of working conditions. On the occasion, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, who is also Chief Patron of J&K Trade Union Congress, addressed the mammoth gathering of leaders and workers of all the Public Sector Undertakings and government departments presently functioning in the state. It is worth mentioning here that the labour movement at Chicago took serious turn and spreaded all over the world and since more than a century, the day is being celebrated in the memory of the martyrs. Earlier, Presidents of different units of PSU highlighted various demands and narrated pitiful conditions prevalent in their respective organizations for immediate remedial measures to mitigate the miseries of working/ labour classes in Jammu and Kashmir. The main demands included releasing of COLA in favour of PSU employees, extending pensionary benefits to PSU workers, regularization of contractual and adhoc employees, time bound promotions, revival of sick units and depositing of G.P. and C.P. funds. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister assured that their genuine demands would be looked into and considered sympathetically as most of these issues already stand discussed with the Chief Minister, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, who had already incorporated PHE department in Essential Service category and released one day salary.
