| Officers' `interests' invite minister's bashing | | | Jammu, May 1 Making a dig on the officers of his department, Jammu and Kashmir minister for Power, Rigzin Jora today said "owing to the vested interest, every one around is enthusiastic for execution of works, while no one is taking any interest to attend the crucial areas". Addressing Officers and locals after inaugurating a newly constructed 10 MVA Receiving Station on the right banks of river Tawi in winter capital Jammu, minister said, state is incurring huge losses every year due to power and revenue pilferage. He said about 25 percent of the electricity goes waste due to transmission and distribution losses. He, however, warned the officers that if the present trend would continue the time is near when the department would fall like a house of cards. Member Legislative Assembly, Yogesh Sawhney, besides senior PDD officials and prominent citizens of the area were present on the occasion. Drawing a bleak picture of the department, Minister said that against Rs 1635 crore spent on purchasing electricity last year, the revenue realization was a meager 438 crore . The gravity of the situation could be gauged by the fact that state is suffering over Rs one thousand crore loss on account of electricity. He also accused the authorities for failing to achieve the metering targets adding that while unlike past people are voluntarily asking for having meters at their households, PDD officers are not able to meet the commitments made to them.
