Bhalla distributes cheques of Rs. 16.35 lakh

JAMMU, MAY 02
MLA Gandhi Nagar Mr. Raman Bhalla today distributed cheques amounting to Rs. 16.35 lakh among 815 beneficiaries under various centrally sponsored schemes launched by the Social Welfare Department at a function organized by the department at Government Boys Higher Secondary School here this morning.
Addressing gathering, Mr. Bhalla said that the coalition government is making concerted efforts to provide all basic amenities to poor and down trodden class of the society at their doorsteps. He informed that the money which is now being distributed is in the shape of arrears of the last so many months. He appreciated the role of the social welfare department for timely compiling the statements of long pending dues in favour of physically handicapped , widows and old age pension cases.
Highlighting the role of the department, he exhorted upon the gathering to avail the benefits of the schemes launched by the Centre and State governments. He asked the social welfare department authorities to work with zeal and dedication and also launch extensive awareness campaigns to come up to the expectation of the SC/ST/OBC.
He further elaborated that due to the cooperation of UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad and coalition partners, the state is pledged to come out of the clutches of poverty and leading for the ‘Khushali’. The symptoms are now started becoming visible in the eyes of a common man in the shape of ground realities after taking up of mega projects like Baglihar, Dul Hasti, Udhampur-Katra-Srinagar rail link especially shifting of rail bogies and engine to valley, 4-lanning of national highway, establishing of eight new districts, providing 17 lakh kanals of land to the land tillers under Roshni act free of cost, construction of many bridges recently in a time bound manner apart from Dental College and other civil structures in the state.
406 physically handicapped got the cheques @ Rs. 1800 each, 171 widow pension cases @ Rs. 200 each, Old age pension cases belonging to more than 56 years of age for female and above 60 years for male, 191 cases @ Rs. 200 each and under NFBS Rs. 10,000 each also disbursed to 47 cases who are widow but below the age of 45 years.
Among others, Joint Director Information Mr. S. K. Sharma, Mr. Amrit Bali, Mr. Dwaraka Choudhary, Mr. Tilk Raj Gupta, Mr Satish Sharma, Mr Jai Singh, Rita Devi, Asha Devi and other prominent citizens were also present.
