| 22 die as bus falls into gorge | | | SHIMLA, MAY 2 At least 22 people were killed and 24 others injured when a bus fell into about 300-metre deep gorge near Majhiyoon, about 67 km from here today, police said.
With 46 passengers on board, the bus was on its way to Shimla from Kayari when the incident occurred, Superintendent of Police Anand Pratap Singh told PTI.
While 13 died on the spot, rest of them lost their lives either on way to hospital or in the hospital, Singh said.
The injured have been admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College Hospital where the condition of a few of them was reported to be serious.
Preliminary reports said one of the tyres of the bus got punctured causing imbalance to the vahicle which rolled down into the gorge.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh visited the injured at the and announced a compensation of Rs 75,000 to the families of those who died in the accident and Rs 15,000 to the injured.
He also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the accident and asked the doctors to provide best medical treatment to the injured.
Shimla Deputy Commissioner Tarun Kapoor said the district administration would provide immediate relief of Rs 5,000 each to the families of the dead and Rs 2,000 each to the injured.
