| Parties coining new political mantras to gain electoral edge over rivals | | | Sanjay Khajuria Jammu May 3 POLITICAL EXTREMISM in fact is the new mantra-the political parties have adopted these days to have an edge over their rivals and to woo the vote bank at the state and national level as well. Taking stands which verge on-‘Political Extremism’ has become a ‘potent tool’ to seek public attraction is an undisputed belief in political spheres. Monitoring the heat of the Political Extremis, experts mention that Arjun Singh’s pro-reservation card, Mayavati’s game plan of wooing Brahmins, BJP’s oft repeated demand of Abrogation of the Article 370, PDP’s use of its trump card of demilitarization and revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and Hurriyat’s (M) stress for Tripartite Talks and Hurriyat (G) holding card of the plebiscite and Azaadi are all part of an exercise to impress the masses influence them politically. The political buck does not stop here, as JKNPP has come up with the demand of amendment of Article 370 and empowerment of more central recommendations in the state, the National Conference still harps the raga of regional autonomy despite knowing the fact that central government has rejected it. In another example of this new political mantra, the People’s Democratic Party Patron and former chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed appeared to have been quoted in a section of media saying ‘Centre is contemplating to extend Self Rule under which the state will be kept out of the purview of the Powers of Article 356 of Indian Constitution.’ At the same time the PDP patron reiterated the demand of making Jammu and Kashmir a ‘free economic zone.” It is to mention that turning their backs from the vital problems of the people of the state which include unemployment, poverty, poor health and education infrastructure, the PDP has taken up its pet causes to the extremes and is harping upon safe passage of youths from PoK, amnesty to the relatives of militants under its much hyped healing touch. Not only the political observers but the common people have described it as nothing but Political Extremism to remain in the centre stage of politics. All this has hit the politics in recent past as majority of the political parties have started ringing the corners bells to seek mass attraction. In state PDP’s harping for demilitarization and other issues have compelled the Congress to succumb to the gust of extremes sloganeering be it the Healing Touch, or the new Surrender Policy, Talks/ Dialogue not the bullets, Resumption of Indo-Pak Routes, Self Rule, Joint Management of state, and now with the demilitarization and the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). This political extremism indeed has served their proponents till the date and successfully gave them joy rides in the given political scenario. The think tanks of the various parties now indulged in finding the extreme sloganeering to be in the limelight and ahead of the others and in a enliven example of all this it is the PDP that has turned the game by playing its cards timely and judiciously.
