NEW DELHI, May 4
World's 100 most influentiail people of 2007 have just been identified by the prestigious, popular Time magazine. Congress supremo, Sonia Gandhi, and the UK-based steel tycoon, Lakshmi Mittal, have made it to the magazine's list. And the list also includes "terror merchant" Osama bin Laden and Pope Benedict XVI among others.
This year's list of Time 100 most influential people is an eclectic mix of entertainers, journalists, scientists, politicians and world leaders. The list also includes Queen Elizabeth II, presidential hopefuls senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, YouTube founders Steve Chen and Chad Hurley and model Kate Moss. However, US President George W Bush does not figure in the list.

The list of 100 most influential, which hit newsstands on Friday, also includes 71 men and 29 women from 27 countries. Hollywood heartthrob, Leonardo DiCaprio, and envelope-pushers Rosie O’Donnell and Sacha Baron Cohen are among the entertainment newsmakers, so are director Martin Scorsese and singer/actor Justin Timberlake.

Other entertainers also making the list are Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, America Ferrera, Michael J. Fox, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller.
Separately, Time named 14 'power givers' such as Bill and Melinda Gates, Angelina Jolie and Queen Rania al-Abdullah of Jordan.

The list recognises "the men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming our world" The list does not appear in any order or give the magazine's reasons why some people were chosen over others. The 'leaders and revolutionaries' category features Queen Elizabeth II, Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni — in an entry penned by US counterpart Condoleezza Rice — and Rice herself, appearing for a fourth year running. Schwarzenegger makes a showing next to Raul Castro, the younger brother of Cuban leader Fidel Castro, and Chinese President Hu Jintao.

Other politicians include German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Liu Qi, head of the 2008 Beijing Olympics committee.
