Jugal inaugurates NREGA scheme for Jammu district

JAMMU, APRIL 5
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Mr Jugal Kishore Sharma today inaugurated one-day awareness programme on Nation Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) at Abhinav Theatre.
The aim of this historical National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) that 100 day of wages employment in a year to every rural household whose adult members are willing to do unskilled manual work.
Among others MLAs Nagrota and Bishnah, Mr Jujal Kishore Sharma and Mr Ashwani Kumar Sharma, Secretary Rural Development, Mr M.S Khan, Additional District Development Commissioner, Mr Charanjeet Singh, Director Rural Development, Mr G.R Bhagat and other officers of departments besides Ex-Sarpanches and Panches were also present on the occasion.
Addressing huge gathering, the Minister congratulated the organization and thanked the Sarpanches and Panches who have participated in the programme from different areas of the Jammu district. He said that such type of convention would not only stimulate the volunteer of this discipline in the walks of life. The participants will get an opportunity to exchange their views and outcome of this programme will bring immense benefit not only to the participants but also to the entire society as well, he added.
The Minister said the NREGA scheme which was earlier implemented in three districts of the state including Doda, Poonch and Kupwara last year. Now this historical NREGA scheme is being implemented in the entire Jammu district as well. He said after registration, this programme will provide 100 day of employment in a year. Within 15 day of submitting the applications/forms the day work is demanded, employment will be provided to the applicant by the Gram panchayat or the Programme Officer He announced that for preparations of plans of the number of works at village level, the signature of Sarpanches and Panches is necessary for its implementation. He also informed that during this period the facilities are available to workers ie safe drinking water, shed for children, period of rest and first aid emergency treatment for minor injuries.
He also informed to the gathering that beyond 5 kms radius of applicant’s residence, he/she is entitled to get 10 percent additional wages towards transport and living expenses. He said selection of works under the NREGA ie water conservations and water harvesting, drought proofing, irrigation canals including micro and minor irrigation works, provision of irrigation facility to land owned by household belonging to schedule castes and schedule tribes, renovation of traditional water bodies, land development, flood control and protection work, rural connectivity to provide all weather access.
He also sought cooperation and participation of the people in order to weed out corrupt elements from administration so that their genuine demands and other problems could be resolved in transparent manner.
