| Mobile telephony: a mirage for border villagers | | | Arnia May 6 Today when the ISRO is boasting to provide a permanent platform in space but at the same time people in J&K state, which is known to be the crown of India are suffering from poor communication facilities. People particularly those living in the border areas of Jammu are suffering due to lack of proper telecommunication infrastructure. Despite the fact that RS Pura town is considered to be the rice bowl of the state, the people here are suffering due to the non-functional of mobile phones in the area particularly the villages. Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Arnia, said that the people living in border areas can not communicate with each other due to non-functioning of the mobile phones. He said that when the government is talking about making all the boarder villages as model villages, it should ensure that the mobile services are functional in the border towns. Terming it as discrimination against the people of rural areas, Amit Kumar, another resident said that though mobile telephony has been introduced in the rural areas but the communication signals are so weak that phones do not function. About 4 years back when the premier mobile companies of this country made foray in this state, they had promised that they will provide best quality services in the state, but it has remained a dream. Today when the people in the every nook and corner of this country are enjoying their mobile phones but people living in border areas have been deprived of this facility due to poor infrastructure.
