Not to politicize Governor’s office, BJP ask PDP
Give up harping on demilitarization, self rule’, Prof Om
5/6/2007 11:50:50 PM

JAMMU May-06
Urging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership not to politicize the constitutional office of the State Governor, State BJP Vice President and spokesperson Prof Hari Om today advised it (PDP) not to take up the issue of demilitarization or troops’ reduction as it is for the Army commanders to deploy or redeploy the troops in the areas according to the prevailing security environment. ‘It is not the business of the PDP or any other political party to poke its nose in the security related issues’, he added.
Referring to the State Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha’s views on the issue of demilitarization, Prof Om said that he (Governor) was totally correct as he is here to protect the country’s sovereign interests and not toe the line of PDP and alleged that ‘PDP is doing its best to demoralize the security forces and promote the cause of Pakistan and its agents in Kashmir’.
Fully endorsing the view of the State Governor, the BJP leader said that people of Jammu and Kashmir are already enjoying self-rule as they themselves elect their own government from time to time. ‘To support the PDP’s demand of self rule and demilitarization’, he observed ‘would only strengthen the hands of those who have been seeking to force the Union Government to accept the Pakistan President’s four point insidious formula’ including Indo-Pak joint control’ and asserted that this’ pernicious or shared sovereignty formula is not acceptable either to the BJP or to the nation.
He said the BJP is for a solution that brings the state of Jammu and Kashmir under the purview of the Indian Constitution and allows free flow of the Indian Constitution in the state and cautioned the Centre not to accept any such demand which is aimed at getting the state out of the Indian constitution.
Prof Hari Om expressed the hope that PDP would abandon its dubious campaign on withdrawal of troops and drop the idea of self-rule and merge with the national mainstream.
