| BRO completes 47 years of its existence | | | Jammu, May 07- The Border Roads Organization,(BRO) established by the first Prime Minister Late Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on May 7,1960 completed 47 years of its existence with a track record of connecting the mountainous and hilly areas with motorable roads. The BRO, set up as a road construction executive force, primarily conceived to meet Army’s strategic requirements, was headed by Director General Border Roads (DGBR) as the executive head and General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) as the execution force to build and maintain roads, through an establishment of Chief Engineer Projects. Major General, KN Dubey, was the first Director General Border Roads Organization.. The objectives of BRO are to support the Armed Forces in meeting their strategic needs with committed and cost-effective development and sustenance of infrastructure, to achieve international levels of quality excellence and time consciousness in a diversified sphere of construction activity, in a cost-effective manner; to become a partner in agency, transnational and national development projects; to excel in the development, adoption, assimilation and use of state-of-the-art technology and optimum use of information technology. Apart from these objectives, the activity of BRO is to focus on core competencies to ensure the highest level of skills and proficiency in construction activity; to promote high values in the organization to ensure a high level of self-esteem in each individual and synergy in the organization; and to help enrich the quality of life of the community and ensure all-round growth.
