Udhampur, Sept 16: Saddal, which was once a small village with 40-50 households and some 55 kilometres from Udhampur district headquarter, has virtually vanished from the map of district as the landslides had reduced the entire village to rubble.
During the ten days long search by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) jawans along with Jammu and Kashmir police 15 dead bodies have been recovered so far far but more than 30 to 35 people are believed to be still buried under the rubble.
With the passing of every day hope of finding any more survivors dwindled said National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) jawans who are waiding waist-deep through slush to recover trapped under the debris of a landslide that swallowed up Sadhota village of Panchari in Udhampur district . Reports added that continuing its operation NDRF rescuers helped by police and villagers resumed their search on Monday through piles of rock, mud and upturned trees and recovered two more bodies on Friday.
It is very difficult to retrieve bodies manually moreover, there is no road to the area as the village is about 4 km on- foot journey from Panjar, therefore, carrying JCB etc is not possible.
