MLA for timely completion of Devika Development Project

UDHAMPUR, MAY 07
To assess pace of progress of works going on for cleansing sacred Devika Rivulet in Udhampur town at an estimated cost of over Rs.7 crores under Devika Development Project, the MLA Udhampur, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia accompanied by a team of Engineers of Irrigation and Flood Control visited the site from Housing colony to the culmination point of the project at Umara today.
While expressing his satisfaction over the works under execution, the MLA emphasized upon the engineers to accelerate the pace of construction of concrete protection walls on both sides of rivulet so that Devika could be saved from pollution and the religious aspirations of the devotees could be got accomplished at the stipulated time frame.
Mr. Mankotia also asked the engineers to construct pucca foot path measuring two meters in breadth on retaining walls so that trekkers who desire to have site view of the rivulet could move easily on its banks. He also called for fencing on both sides of the walls so that the inhabitants or visitors could not throw waste material in Devika rivulet besides proper drainage system on both sides of protection walls.
Over the issue of removal of encroachments already made by the people residing on the banks of Devika rivulet, the MLA said that the Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur is being approached for demarcation of land and ensure early steps for removal of such encroachments where these exist.
A number of deputations inhabiting on the banks of Devika rivulet called on MLA and apprised him of various problems including construction of lanes and drains. He assured solution of their genuine problems at the earliest. Mr. Mankotia appealed the public for extending their fullest cooperation in speedy completion of this project.
On the persistent demand of the people at Umara where more than 250 families resides, the MLA asked the engineers to construct retaining wall by about 300 meters in length in addition to save the land from erosion by including it in the project.
