Jammu, May 7
The Jammu and Kashmir Gujjars United Front has strongly condemned the brutal lathi-charge on innocent nomad Gujjars in Nagri Kathua.
The leaders of the front Anwar Chowdhary, Shah Mohd. Choudahry and Zaffar Khatana, while addressing the media persons alleged that in the whole state the Gujjars particularly the nomad Gujjar-Bakerwals are being harassed to the hilt. They alleged that false militancy cases are being slapped on innocent Gujjars in whole of the State.
The front has strongly condemned the lathicharge on nomad Gujjars, who were camping in Kathua in the process of their migration to upper reaches, but police without any rhyme or reason barged into their tents and lathi charged them mercilessly and arrested them by slapping false cases against them at the instance of MP Lal Singh and other local people.
Shah Mohd. Choudhary, advocate Secretary General of the Front alleged that the nomadic Gujjars and Bakerwals are not allowed to move their cattle (deras) from one place to another. He alleged that under false pretext they are being arrested by the police on the ground that they were smuggling bovine animals and huge amount is extorted from them by the police in the various districts through which they pass for high reaches.
The Gujjars United Front has appraised the Prime Minister and UPA chair Persons Sonia Gandhi and also faxed complaint against M.P. to him. The Front further urged the Chief Minister to rehabilitate nomad Gujjars and Bakerwals on the State Land which was in their possession since long. Anwar Chowdhary said that immediately after coming into force the Roshni Act, the innocent and helpless Gujjars and Bakerwals who were in occupation of State land are being forcibly dispossessed by land grabbers to usurp their land.
