Srinagar, Sept 19 : Stating that 77 bodies have been retrieved so far in flood affected areas of Kashmir valley, Abdul Gani Mir, the IGP Kashmir on Friday said that police is part and parcel of relief operations going on across the Valley. While talking to media persons, Mir said that 77 bodies have been recovered from flood affected areas across the Kashmir valley since September 1 . "So far the number of casualties across the Valley since September 1 is 77," the IGP Kashmir informed. Giving the breakup of these casualties, the IGP Kashmir said that in eight bodies were recovered from Anantnag, nine bodies from Kulgam, two bodies from Shopian, four bodies from Awantipur, three bodies from Bandipora, four bodies from Kupwara, six bodies from Budgam, two bodies from Ganderbal and 39 bodies from Srinagar.
However, Mir said that in Srinagar most of the deceased among 39 are non locals. "There are around 18 to 20 bodies' of non locals among the 39 retrieved from Srinagar," the IGP Kashmir said. He said that out of 39 bodies retrieved from Srinagar three were recovered from Police's East Zone, seven were recovered from police West Zone, three from Police North Zone, two were recovered from Police Hazratbal zone and 24 were recovered from Police South Zone which besides other places also include Rajbagh, Mehjoor Nagar and Batmaloo.
A senior police officer informed that police has constituted several teams of police personnel for cleanliness drive in Srinagar.
"We can understand that the Municipal Corporation alone can not cope up with this kind of natural calamity so we have constituted five teams of 25 police personnel each who have started clearance of garbage in some flood hit areas of Srinagar. "These police teams alongwith trucks and tractors were deputed in flood affected areas in and around Batamaloo, Sher Garhi and Sonawar areas to clear the garbage from the main roads," the police officer added. He also added that Police Hospital Srinagar has established a Medical Camp at Batamaloo and wherein patients are being examined by a team of doctors and are given free medicines. Meanwhile, JKAP 9th Bn organized a relief camp at Pohroo, Nowgam where essential commodities Rice, Mineral water, Milk, Baby food, Dals, Ground nut and Maggi were distributed among the flood victims. A Medical camp was also organized at the same place. |
