Samba, Sept 19: Two girls including a minor today drowned in a pond in Sumbly village of the Purmandal Block police sources said.
The deceased have been identified as Rafia Begam d/o Abdul Gani (18) and Sofia Akhtar d/o Salim Mohamad (16).
The incident took place when the girls were swimming in the pond, and one of them slipped into deep water, police said adding, " the other jumped to rescue the drowning companion and she also drowned. An eye witness, Shah Muhamad said that as one of them was drowning in the deep end of pond and the other went to rescue the drowning girl but she also got drowned.
"One the deceased Rafia Begam was the Student of 12th class while Sofia Akhtar was reading in the 10th class, sources added. After getting the information, Police team from Purmandal Police Station rushed to the spot and fished out their bodies.
After legal formalities, the bodies were handed over to family members for last rites, police sources added. |
