In deep slumber PDD fails to explain the details of revised power tariff
5/8/2007 11:41:34 PM

Jammu, May 8
The Power Development Department in Jammu is in deep slumber. It is yet to wake up for conveying to electricity consumers exact details on tabulating per unit charges which was warranted after the State Electricity Regulatory Commission revised the power tariff. The revised power tariff was published in some local newspapers but the innocent consumers could make neither tail nor head out of it.
And during the last over one month several consumers keep on visiting the sub-offices and division offices of the Power Development Department (PDD) but none of the officials are ready to explain the subtleties of the revised power tariff. At couple of places officials in the subdivisions plainly tell consumers “we have yet to prepare the details of the revised power tariff.” When informed that the revised tariff rates were published in newspapers a month ago but the chart had been all greek to “us” the officials said “we have heard about it.we do not have exact details.come after a fortnight and by then we will have the exact details.”
And the consumers have approached several engineers and some of them were intelligence to explain that in metered areas a consumer has to pay Rs.1.40 per unit if the reading is in 30-100 units slab.Between 100-200 unit slab the consumers have to pay at the rate of Rs.2.10 per unit.Besides this each consumer has to pay tariff on the load agreement. If the load agreement was one KV he had to pay extra Rs.40.But these engineers had no details on the tariff on load agreement beyond two KVs.
However, officials in the subdivisions express ignorance on the details given by engineers. It has caused a lot of confusion and difficulties for the consumers. A majority of people want to clear the power tariff arrears on time but in the absence of any clear cut details on the revised tariff they were being advised to wait.
“Wait for how long ?” This is the question that troubles consumers in Jammu.
