Jammu May 08- The Vigilance and Inspection Wing of Commercial Taxes has recovered Rs.19, 58, 815 during April this year as against Rs.6,76,625 recovered during the corresponding period last year registering an increase of 190 per cent. This abnormal increase has been made possible due to coordinated efforts and increase in vigil and en-route inspections. The Deputy Commissioner Commercial Taxes, M L Sharma has said that the wing has been able to levy and recover Rs.11, 42,123 as penalty, Rs.5, 04, 811 as security and Rs.3,11,881 as entry tax during the last month compared to Rs.3,54,387 as penalty, Rs.1,64,656 as security and Rs.1,57,582 as entry tax recovered during the same period last year showing corresponding increase of 222 per cent in penalty, 207 per cent in security and 98 per cent in entry tax. The Deputy Commissioner has again emphasized upon all the transporters, owners of commercial and passenger vehicles not to carry taxable goods without any supportive documents including invoice and GRs, as envisaged under Jammu and Kashmir VAT Act failing which necessary action as warranted under law shall follow.
